Yamayaki

foraged grass, branch, and thread

39 in H x 35 in W x 23 in D

Installation at the Akiyoshidai International Art Village, Japan

This sculpture is inspired by the cycles of grass in Akiysohidai’s Karst Plateau. The green grass in the summer turns golden in the fall, and finally black in the winter. During February, there is a ritual of burning dead grass, “Yamayaki,” to allow new growth to emerge.
